What topics will be covered in this course?

The course covers how to download, install, and configure SketchUp Pro on your computer. From there, I go into how to use the basic tools in SketchUp, such as the move tool, push/pull tool, rectangle tool, scale tool, etc. I will show you how to organize your SketchUp model with groups, components, and tags, as well as how to create scenes and use the 3D warehouse to download objects. I also show you how to add materials and textures to your model, and how to apply styles to your model that will impress your clients.

What will I be able to do after completing this course?

You will be able to use the tools and features of SketchUp to create a 3D model. You will have a solid foundation of skills that you can build upon as you progress through your SketchUp learning journey. This course is the foundational course for the FOCUSED SketchUp program, and from here you can easily jump into a bootcamp specific to your niche.

How is this course different from the Bootcamps?

This is a CORE course, meaning it teaches you the foundational skills that you must know before exploring a niche within SketchUp (ex. Interior design, kitchen & bath design, etc.). The FOCUSED Bootcamps include this course (FOCUSED Core SketchUp) as part of it, and it’s what you do the first two days of the bootcamp. The Bootcamp goes farther in your learning and covers topics such as rendering with V-Ray, using LayOut to create elevations and diagrams, my workflow for modeling spaces, and extensions I use to speed my modeling time.

Is this course suitable for beginners or is it more advanced?

This course is for absolute beginners, and/or those with some SketchUp experience. I walk you through how to download, install, and configure SketchUp and show you the basic tools included with SketchUp, and how to organize and stylize your 3D models.

Are there any prerequisites for this course?

No, the only prerequisites are that you have a working computer (no iPads) that can handle SketchUp, a three-button mouse (can be purchased easily from amazon if you don’t have one) and have internet access.

Do you offer a course syllabus or curriculum outline?

The course syllabus is shown above. When you enroll, you have the ability to download and print the course guide, which includes all the lesson notes and areas for you to take your own notes as you go through the course.

How long is the course?

The course is just under 4 hours of video instruction. You can watch each lesson at your own pace, and re-watch lessons (or rewind) if you need to.

What happens if I start and then get sidetracked?

The course lessons are available 24/7, and you have lifetime access to the course, so you can pick it up whenever you have free time. However, the free trial of SketchUp Pro is only 7 days long, so if that lapses, you will need to purchase the annual license for SketchUp in order to follow along in the course.

Can I access the lessons after I finish the course?

The course is divided into four modules, and the lessons consist of a video, lesson notes, and any associated downloads. Lessons are pre-recorded and available instantly when you purchase, and it's up to you on when you want to consume them.

Do you offer any downloadable resources or templates?

The course comes with several downloads, including a few SketchUp files, my SketchUp Cheat Sheet, and the printable Course Guide (pdf).

Is there a community or forum for students to interact?

Yes! When you enroll in the course, you will get access to the private Facebook group just for students. This is the preferred way to get support during (and after) the course. You will retain your access to this group even after the course ends.

Is the course mobile-friendly?

Do I need any special software or hardware to participate?

You will need a desktop or laptop that is fairly new (~5 years) that is capable of running SketchUp. I also recommend a three-button mouse for your computer (left, right, scroll wheel).

Can I use an iPad?

No, an iPad running the SketchUp App will not work for this course. You can, however, use the iPad to view the course lessons while you work in parallel on your desktop or laptop (which has SketchUp).

Do I need to purchase a SketchUp license?

No, SketchUp has a free trial that you can use to take this course. However, SketchUp's free trial is only 7 days, so keep that in mind before starting this course.
